Marlys E. (Olson) Smith, age 83 died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital.
 

   She was born in Eau Claire September 18, 1927 to Carl and Gertrude (Schnitkee) Peterson of Cleghorn. Marlys grew up in Cleghorn and loved playing softball for 4-H and church and this love of sports followed her whole life. Her other passion was music. She was the church organist for many years and played at numerous weddings and funerals. She graduated in 1945 and worked at US Rubber in Eau Claire. Marlys married Lester S. Olson at Zion Lutheran Church in Cleghorn. He died April 4, 1965 and she married Merville H. Smith of Durand on August 10, 1970. He died April 1987. After Merv's passing, she moved to Wabasha, MN and lived there until she moved to the Clairemont. Marlys worked at Montgomery Wards in Eau Claire for many years. After moving to Durand, she worked at M.H. Smith, Insurance.
 
Marlys and Lester raised five children who survive her, Maureen Raskin, Eau Claire, Nancy Block, Black River Falls, Steven (Pamela) Olson, Nashville, TN, Sandra (Kent) Koehler, Hibbing ,MN, and Sally (Roger) Larson of Mondovi, WI, Step children, William Smith, Herbert Smith, Peggy Smith, Patricia Pfielskicker, Dennis Smith. Marlys is further survived by grandchildren, Sarah (Mark) VanBelle, Glen Mills, PA, Stacey Raskin, Eau Claire, Ryan (Jennifer) Raskin, Slinger, WI, Andrew (Jennifer) Block, Bloomington, MN, Aaron (Jennifer) Block, Muskego, WI, Abby (Nathan) Simonson, Appleton, WI, Elizabeth Olson, Brianna Olson, Steven Ross Olson, all of Nashville, TN, Jonathon (Samantha) Foster, Gilbert, MN, Jason (Sara) Foster, Coon Rapids, MN, Beth (Joe) Berger, Mondovi, Jen (Augie) Weber, La Crosse, WI, Ashley Larson, Mondovi, and 11 great-grandchildren.  

  
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Ione, husbands Lester Olson and Merville Smith, and son-in-laws, Timothy Foster and Dale Block.
 
Funeral services will be at 11 am on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church, 501 E. Fillmore Street, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Pastor Mark Schulz will officiate. 
 
Burial will immediately follow the service in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Cleghorn.
