Wesley J. Vlcek, age 79, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
 
He was born in Eau Claire on Dec. 28, 1931 to Wesley and Katherine (Sippel) Vlcek.
 

 

 
 
 

   Wes worked many years in the road construction business, operating heavy machinery, and he belonged to the Operating Engineers Local Union 139 since 1966.
His hobbies included watching stockcar racing on the weekends, playing pool and cards weekly. He enjoyed gardening, his collection of old Mopar cars and driving tractor for his neighbor. He worked faithfully at the polls for every election. 
 
Wes was a longtime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. He served his country as a Navy Seebee during the Korean War and was later honorably discharged.
 
Survivors include his sons Wesley Jr. (Charlene) and David (Kimberly), both of Eau Claire; grandchildren Matthew (L'Tania) Vlcek, Hudson, WI April (Jake) Johnson, Jessica (Emerson) Bertoni, Jeremy (Nicki Holthaus) Vlcek and Levi (Anita) Vlcek, all of Eau Claire, Vanessa Erickson, Chippewa Falls, and Duane (Ashley Warner) Vlcek, Medford, Wis., ; great-grandchildren Lyla, Nora, Kayla, Treyton, Easton, Zodon, Tate, Teagan, Oscar, Oliver and Adelle and his special friend Beverly LaBerge. Also surviving are his sister and brothers Nancy (Palmer) Tollefson, George (Delores) and Jack (Cathy) Vlcek.
   

Wes is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Mary Alaine and a sister Dorothy Vlcek.
 
Funeral services for Wesley will be Monday, April 4 at 11 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1804 Highland Ave, Eau Claire with pastor Nate Aaseng officiating.
 
Visitation will be Sunday, April 3, from 4 to 8 PM at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home (3209 Rudolph Rd. Eau Claire) and also Monday morning from 10 AM until time of services at the church.
 
Burial will take place in the Brunswick Cemetery where full military honors will be performed by American Legion Post # 53.
