Deb was born in Eau Claire on October 7, 1955. She lived in a few different locations during her childhood including Racine, Wisconsin and Wahpeton, North Dakota before moving back to Eau Claire as a teenager. She graduated from Eau Claire North High School in 1973 and continued her love of education by graduating from multiple programs at Chippewa Valley Technical College and earning her Bachelor's Degree from UW-Stout.

Deb was a workaholic and worked many different jobs during her life. Among her employers were Jimmy Woos, Uniroyal, Lorman Education Services, Benedict's Refrigeration, Shopko and H&R Block. She proudly retired from the workforce on April 15, 2011.

She enjoyed a variety of different activities during her free time, most notably camping, traveling and going to garage sales. She shot pool on Thursday nights as part of the Eau Claire Pool League, for which she also served as the secretary for nearly two decades. She also liked going to Country Jam and Warrens' Cranberry Fest and hosting an annual Fourth of July party. Mostly though, Deb loved her family and friends above anything else. She spent as much time with them as she could and would do anything for anyone. She lived a busy life but always had time for anyone who needed her.

Deb is survived by her mother Marie Smuhl; two daughters Patricia Smuhl and Amanda Wedlund (Jeff); two granddaughters Mercedes Bergeron and Marina Smuhl; great grandson Wyatt Smuhl - Halvorsen; sister Dawne Schreiner Sutton (Dick); two brothers Jim Smuhl (Jaye) and Mike Smuhl; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and great friends. Along with her cats.

She is preceded in death by her father Chester (Chet) Smuhl, her sister-in-law Dee Dewey and brother-in-law Dick Schreiner.
