Gertrude J. Roach, 98, a resident of the Rutledge Home, Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the home with St. Joseph's Hospice.
She was born October 22, 1911 in Reedsburg, WI, the daughter of Albert and Julia
(Halvenaleban) Rathman
Gertrude married Harold J. Roach on September 17, 1931 in Waukegan, Ill.
Gertrude moved to Chippewa Falls in 1934 and became a member of Holy Ghost Church. She was active in the St. Anne's and Altar Societies and many other church activities. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for 40 years where she served as VP, Sec/Treasurer and Chaplin.
Gert worked at the Falls Bowling Alley lunch counter and the Silver Grill before going to work at the Northern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled in 1954. She then retired in 1976. |
Gertrude is survived by: three sons, Harold "Joe" (Shirley) Charles (Mareen) both of Chippewa Falls, and Robert (Joan) of Waterloo, Iowa; one daughter, Charlene (Del) Shower of Chippewa Falls; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Bob Jakubowski of Chippewa Falls.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Harold "Bud" Roach on April 12, 2003; her parents; one daughter, Mary Jakubowski; and 15 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 11, 2009 at Holy Ghost Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. Arul Joseph will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Entombment will be in Hope Mausoleum, Chippewa Falls.
Friends may call one hour before the services at Holy Ghost Church on Friday, December 11, 2009. The VFW #1038 Auxiliary will have a ritual service at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
The family would like to extend an appreciation and heartfelt thank you to the Rutledge Home Staff for the loving care they have extended to our mother for the past three years and a special thank you to St. Joseph's Hospice and especially Sara Wiesmen.
The family prefers memorials to Holy Ghost Church.
