History

Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel has been a fixture in Chippewa Falls for over 100 years. In 1902, Martin Hogseth operated a furniture store and funeral home on Spring Street in the downtown area of the city. He noticed the need for a modern funeral building separate from the furniture store, so in 1939, he and his son, Helmer Hogseth built an up-to-date funeral home with a church-style chapel at 44 E. Columbia Street on the site of the former residence of Hiram S. Allen, a founding father of Chippewa Falls. Kindliness, courtesy, and consideration of all people in the community was the motto of Hogseth Funeral Chapel.

In April of 1950, Arnold C. Pederson, a native of Chippewa Falls and an employee of Hogseth Funeral Chapel, bought the business from Mr. Hogseth. He added a family-style visitation room and an entryway to the original facility and operated the funeral home as Hogseth-Pederson Funeral Chapel until 1978. At that time, William R. Volker, a native son of Chippewa Falls who had joined the firm in 1973, purchased it and changed the name to Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, as it remains today.

Kindliness, courtesy, and consideration of all people is still their motto with the addition of the pursuit and commitment to excellence, as the highest level of service and satisfaction possible is delivered to our families.
